Renjo La pass- Gokyo via Thame, Kala Patar- Everest Base Camp (EBC) 

Description:

This trek has "everything". You can get very close to the Tibetan border on this trek.  We cross the Renjo La pass for some incredible views of the whole Everest region massif including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse & Pumori.  This is the trek if you want to get away from the majority of tourists for a few days, and you have an interest in the local Sherpa traditions and culture (we'll take advantage of connections we have with the local Sherpas).
This option is an alternative to the traditional trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) on the way up (we'll return the traditional way). This trek will climb past the Sherpa villages of Namche Bazaar and Thame, Marlung, Lungden, then Gokyo Valley and the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest in the Nepal Himalaya. From Gokyo Ri & Renjo La, we get one of the finest view points of four 8000-metre peaks (Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu are all visible at once; only other time I have had this view was on my summit day up on Everest!).
This is an 80-mile round trip hike (not including day trips or Kala Patar climb).  You will gain ~8200’ over 11 days, reaching 17,600’ at EBC.

ITINERARY 

• Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu Airport. Then we'll make our way to the hotel where we'll have a briefing about the trip.

• Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu with our tour guide. We'll also use the day to check the trekking gear, and finish it off with a special welcome dinner.
• Day 03: After breakfast we'll make our way to the airport to catch our flight to Lukla (2800m) (35 min flt).  Upon arrival we'll Trek to Phakding. (3hrs)

• Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazar 3500m. Approx 6 hrs.

• Day 05: This will be a rest day in Namche for acclimatization: We'll hike to Kunde (Hillary's first hospital) & Khumjung (Hillary's first school) via Everest View hotel

• Day 06: Trek from Namche to Thame 3800m. (4hrs)

• Day 07: Trek from Thame to Lungden 4210m.

• Day 08: Rest day in Lungden for acclimatization

• Day 09: Trek from Lungden to Gokyo 4790m. Cross the Renjo La pass 5340m

• Day 10: Rest day in Gokyo for acclimatization - Hike to Gokyo lakes

• Day 11: Trek from Gokyo to Cho La Phedi 5360m
.
• Day 12: Trek from Cho La Phedi to Lobuche 5018 m. via crossing the Cho La Pass 5368m. (From Lobuche, we will be following the traditional Everest BC Trek for the rest of the trip)

• Day 13: Trek from Lobuche to Everest BC 5300m, then trek back to Gorek Shep 5110m
.
• Day 14: Climb Kala Patar 5455m for sunrise views of Everest. Trek to Pheriche 4250m
.
• Day 15: Trek from Pheriche to Tengboche
.
• Day 16: Trek from Tengboche to Namche Bazar
.
• Day 17: Trek from Namche to Lukla.

• Day 18: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu, then transfer to the hotel where we'll have a farewell dinner

• Day 19: Free day in Kathmandu

• Day 20-21: Fly home (individual flights may vary on their departure dates)

• 4-night accommodation at the Yak n Yeti Hotel (Kathmandu's version of a 5-star hotel) on BB plan (I've been able to get a great rate for this!)

• Trekking Registration fee & national park permit fees.
• Ground transport and domestic airfare as per the itinerary.

• All meals during the stay in Kathmandu (except the two dinners, welcome & farewell)
